On Wednesday, August 25th at 6:30pm, the Cumberland Historical Society will be hosting a presentation on Maine's participation in The 1893 Chicago's World Fair! This program will be presented by Laura Brown of the Poland Spring Preservation Society.

Held in Chicago, the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 was unprecedented in its scope and innovation. The brilliantly illuminated “White City” covered more than 630 acres and housed 250,000 exhibits, which included the State of Maine Building! Over 46 nations participated and roughly half of the U.S. population attended to view the debut of the Ferris Wheel, AC/DC electricity, and Cracker Jacks, among other things!
