June election
On Tuesday, June 11th there will be State Primary, Municipal Election, a MSAD #51 Budget Validation Referendum, and MSAD #51 District Referendum. Polls will be open from 7am-8pm at Cumberland Town Hall.

Registering to Vote
Residents can stop by during Town Hall office hours to register to vote or can complete a voter registration card through the mail/drop box. 
(Please note that after Wednesday, May 22, all registrations must occur in person at Cumberland Town Hall.*)

  • Download the Maine Voter Registration Card and fill it out completely. Include copies of the following:
    • Proof of Identity (Included, but not limited to, a drivers license, state ID, passport, social security number, or any other government issued identification.)
    • Proof of Residency if your Cumberland address is not listed on your form of ID. (Included, but not limited to, a vehicle registration, hunting/fishing license, utility bill, etc.)

Return documents to Cumberland Town Hall! Place them in the drop box at Town Hall or mail them to ATTN: Town Clerk's Office, Cumberland Town Hall, 290 Tuttle Road, Cumberland, ME 04021.

*During the Closed Period, a voter needs to register in person at Town Hall. The Closed Period for this elections will begin at the close of business on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.


Absentee Voting
Absentee Ballots are now available at Cumberland Town Hall! The last day to Absentee Vote (without a special circumstance) will be Thursday, June 6th.

 
3 Easy Ways to Obtain Your Absentee Ballot:
  • Over the Phone: Call the Clerk's Office at 829-5559 x1014 to request your ballot be mailed to you! Telephone requests must be made by the voter only.  
  • In Person: Stop by Town Hall to pick up ballots for yourself/immediate family members (spouse, child, parent, sister/brother) or vote your own ballot in person.
  • Online: Request your ballot online at this linkhttps://apps.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/AbsenteeBallot/index.pl
  • Voters only wanting to participate in the local elections can, please use this application.
After you receive and complete your ballot, you can drop them in the drop box located outside the front entrance of Town Hall or you can mail them back. 
In-Person Absentee Voting Hours
Absentee Voting hours are Monday-Wednesday: 8am-5pm and Thursday: 8am-6pm. 
 

Effective January 1, 2024, Maine will be transitioning from a closed primary system to a semi-open primary. Unenrolled voters will now be able to participate in primaries. Next State Primary is June 11, 2024.
 
What Primary Ballot are you Eligible to Receive?
Unenrolled Voters – May select a party ballot for Democratic, Green Independent, Libertarian, No Labels or Republican.
Enrolled Voters -  Will receive the party ballot they are entitled to
All registered voters in the Town of Cumberland are eligible to receive the local ballots.
 
Important Information and Dates
Current:  Absentee Ballot Applications Available online, in office or call 829-5559 to request
May 13  – Absentee Ballots become available.
May 22 - Closed Period Begins:  Only in person registrations will be accepted until Election Day
May 24 – Last day to withdraw or change enrollment in time to vote on Election Day.  Voters changing their enrollment after this period will be within the 15 day Pending Period, and ineligible to vote in the Primary Election on 6/11/24. Voters enrolling in a party will need to stay in the party for 90 days before being eligible to change parties/unenroll.
May 27 – Memorial Day - State and Municipal Offices Closed
June 6  – Last day to Absentee vote without a special circumstance. 
 
REMINDERS:
Update changes to your voter record ahead of time.  Name Changes, Address Updates or New Voters may do so during regular business hours to save time on Election Day.  M,T,W 8-5, Th 8-6
Voter Registration Requirements:  New voters are required to show proof of ID and Residency, those updating their status will need to show proof of their new name/address.
