In 1812, Wilson Farm in West Cumberland was established when Cyrus H. Wilson raised the farm's main barn. Mel and Mabel Wilson took over the farm in the 1920s and turned it into one of the biggest poultry operations in Maine, hatching up to 250,000 chicks per season. The Wilson barn burned in 1974, followed by a ruptured milk tank in 1975 and a collapse of the new barn’s roof. Mel and Mabel abandoned the farming life in 1977.
