Council Corner - State and Municipal Tax Programs

Attention residents 65 and over – Monday, July 25th, the Town Council meeting will include presentations on tax programs that you may qualify for! We invite you to listen in, as we go through the State and Town programs that could lesson your annual property tax expense. We will review the following programs:
 

• The Town of Cumberland Senior Tax Assistance Program – this is a rebate program for residents over the age of 70
• The State of Maine Property Tax Deferral Program – this is a deferral program for residents over the age of 65
• The State of Maine Property Tax Stabilization for Senior Citizens Program – this is a newly passed program aimed to “stabilize” property taxes for residents 65 and over.

 
All three programs have additional qualifications, and we will go through each of them, in as much detail as we have, on Monday night. Then we will continue to share the information and applications in coming weeks.
