Introducing the Council Corner! Before each meeting we will highlight items on the agenda that we believe will be of most interest or impact a large portion of our community. We encourage those with questions, comments, or concerns to attend the meetings or send an email to towncouncil@cumberlandmaine.com

Agenda Item #21 – 012: To hold a Public Hearing to consider and act on amendments to Chapter 84 (Fees and Fines), Section 32 (Yard Waste Facility) of the Cumberland Code, as recommended by the Ordinance Committee.

The Town Council received a great deal of positive feedback about the new location of the Brush Dump Facility, with many expressing interest in increasing the facility hours. In response to our community needs, the Ordinance committee has proposed extending the hours and number of days open each season. To offset the costs associated with additional staffing, we asked the committee to revisit the fees associated with the facility and propose changes.

For example, the Annual Residential Pass would increase to $40, but residents will have unlimited access to free compost and, when available, mulch. When considering this increase, the committee compared the pricing of other area facilities to ensure that the costs would remain reasonable and continue to be of value to our citizens.
