Why does keeping Stormwater clean matter?

Polluted stormwater is the only increasing source of water pollution in many watersheds. Stormwater can be polluted by fertilizing your lawns or plants at the wrong time or by using too much.

The following items are stormwater pollutants and will end up in our waters if not properly used or disposed of:

  • Litter
  • Yard waste
  • Excess fertilizer (spilled over onto sidewalks, or roads, or if too much is used)
  • Pet waste
  • Paint waste
  • Carpet cleaning fluids

If we all work together to keep stormwater clean, our natural water bodies will remain fishable and swimmable.
