Springtime + Wild Animals

With spring right around the corner, it's a good time to remind residents about wild animals in our community. We’ll be seeing all sorts of critters out and about, even during the daytime. This does not mean the animal has rabies or is dangerous, they may be looking for a food source to feed their new, growing family. For most people, observing wildlife in their backyard is a thrilling experience, but when an animal causes damage or attempts to occupy the same living space, conflicts can occur.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries + Wildlife has a great deal of information on specific species for resolving and preventing any conflicts from arising. If you have questions or would like to speak to a professional, please contact Cumberland's Animal Control Officer, Bobby Silcott at 893-2810 or bsilcott@cumberlandmaine.com.
