The Cumberland Historical Society will be holding their monthly program on the cod fishing industry in colonial times. Fishing has been a part of Maine’s economy since the arrival of the Europeans in the early 17th century. Mike Dekker, dressed in period attire and using period equipment, will tell the story of the 17th Century cod fishing industry practiced from the shores of mid-coast Maine and will discuss the process of catching, processing, and preserving fish for the overseas market during the 1600’s.
