Cumberland Historical Society Presentation

The Cumberland Historical Society will be holding their monthly program on the cod fishing industry in colonial times. Fishing has been a part of Maine’s economy since the arrival of the Europeans in the early 17^th century. Mike Dekker, dressed in period attire and using period equipment, will tell the story of the 17^th Century cod fishing industry practiced from the shores of mid-coast Maine and will discuss the process of catching, processing, and preserving fish for the overseas market during the 1600’s.
