Prince Memorial Library will host local author Jean M. Peck on Thursday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. She will read from and discuss her latest book, Blue Girls.

Blue Girls — a novel that’s sometimes tragic, often funny — recounts the bittersweet days of the mid-60s when nothing was certain and everything changed. After her best friend dies in 1965, Ruth Cooper must discover her own identity. She enrolls at Bluehill College, where new attitudes toward sex, race, and freedom compel Ruth to re-examine the life she wants to live.

Peck  is an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Maine and the author of two other books: At the Fire’s Center and Maine’s Jewish Heritage, a book she co-authored with Abraham Peck. She earned her MFA from the University of Southern Maine.

The Author Talk is part of a monthly series featuring local authors who discuss their latest book, their inspiration and the writing process. Light refreshments will be served. Prince Memorial Library is located at 266 Main Street in Cumberland. For more information, contact the library at 829-2215.
