Prince Memorial Library will host local author Mary E. Plouffe, Ph.D. on Thursday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. She will read from and discuss her book, I Know It in My Heart: Walking Through Grief with a Child.

I Know It in My Heart tells the story of one loving sister, a motherless child, and a terrified father facing unimaginable loss together. Plouffe’s story is an exploration of childhood and adult grief that ultimately displays the healing power of love and family. Parents, therapists, and anyone else who want to understand loss through the eyes of a child will find useful information here for guiding children through tragedy, and understanding how loss impacts them as they grow. The book is the winner of the Silver Medal in the Inspirational Memoir category of the Living Now Independent Publishers Association and a finalist in the Autobiograph/Memoir Category of the 2017 International Books Awards.

Plouffe, a clinical psychologist, has served on the faculty of the Maine Medical Center psychiatry residency training program, the Maine Board of Examiners, and the Collaborative School. Her essays have been published by NPR, On the Issues Magazine, Brain, Child Magazine, Survivor Review, The Good Men Project and Mothers Always Write. She lives with her husband in Cumberland.

The Author Talk is part of a monthly series featuring local authors who discuss their latest book, their inspiration and the writing process. Light refreshments will be served. Prince Memorial Library is located at 266 Main Street in Cumberland. For more information, contact the library at 829-2215.
