VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Are you interested in learning more about your community? Can you spare a few evening hours? Would you like to meet other Cumberland residents with similar interests? Becoming a member of one of our committees is a great way to get involved! The Town of Cumberland has immediate vacancies on the following committees: our Cool Cities Committee
So what is a Cool City? These are cities that have made a commitment to stopping global warming by signing the U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement. Begun in 2005, the Cool Cities campaign empowers city residents and local leaders to join and encourage their cities to implement smart energy solutions to save money and build a cleaner, safer future.This is an exciting opportunity to shape the goals and structure of this brand new committee! Committee Objectives
The Town of Cumberland Cool Cities Committee has been directed by the Town Council to explore and make recommendations for policies and initiatives related to the reduction of carbon emissions and energy conservation, and more specifically directs the committee to develop policies to:
1. Reduce the Carbon Footprint and emissions for the Town of Cumberland
2. Explore, inventory and recommend policies to the Town Council for energy savings and efficiencies.
3. Work with surrounding communities to collaborate on regional energy savings and carbon reductions and emissions.
4. Explore life-cycle costs for reccommended policies or initiatives, including pay-back costs.
As the committee matures, you will see more information and projects listed on this page. Meetings are held at 6pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the town hall, and are open to the public. Feel free to stop on by; we'd love to hear your input!
