Welcoming New U.S. Citizens at GMS

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Supervisory Immigration Services Officer Cindy Lembarra will administer the Oath of Allegiance to 33 candidates during a naturalization ceremony at the Greely Middle School on April 7th.
 
Welcoming remarks will be provided by Mr. Jeff Porter, Superintendent, MSAD #51. Keynote remarks will be provided by Ms. Ekhals Ahmed.  Ms. Ahmed teaches English at Casco Bay High School, and runs a program called Make It Happen, which prepares multilingual students for college.  She was recently featured on a nationally syndicated afternoon show . The Greely Middle School Chorus accompanied by the Sounds of Silence will perform the national anthem.  The Greely Middle School Jazz Band will perform special musical selections and the Greely Civil Rights Team will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
The 33 citizenship candidates originate from the following 24 countries:  Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, China, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Germany, India, Iraq, Italy New Zealand, Nicaragua, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Somalia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
 
The candidates reside in the following Maine cities and towns:  Arundel, Biddeford, Cape Neddick, Cumberland, Falmouth, Kennebunk, Minot, Portland, Saco, Sanford, South Portland, Springvale, Westbrook, and Windham.
