This Academy will be one class a week for seven weeks. All participants must complete 80% of scheduled class time.


The following topics will be covered during the Academy.

• Agency outline, employment process, MCJA overview & Public concerns
• Maine's Motor Vehicle Laws & crimes
• Maine"s Criminal Laws
• Domestic violence, Drug awareness & D.A.R.E.
• Crime Scenes & evidence collection.
• Use of force (handcuffing, control holds, chemical agent & firearms)
• Court System, dispatch center, final review & Commencement
  

All classes will be interactive with hands on and role-playing scenarios, participants will:

• Conduct mock vehicle stops, searches and arrest.
• Conduct mock criminal investigation.
• Conduct evidence collection.
• "Respond to a mock domestic violence situation.
• Use of force activities and firearms.
• Mock courtroom.
  

The interactive portion of this Academy is NOT a requirement, but is very important.

Requirements:
1.  Limited Criminal background (No Felons)
2.  Must be 18 years of age and reside in the Cumberland Area
3.  Basic background check will be done.
