Tom Beckmann, 53
CUMBERLAND -- Tom died on Feb. 19, 2008, after a car accident. He was 53 years old.
Tom had lived in Cumberland for the last ten years after spending most of his life in the New York City area. He held a BA in French and Fine Arts from Colgate University, an MBA in Finance from Pace University and was ABD in Economics at Fordham University. He was extremely bright but he will most be remembered as Coach to many hockey and tennis players in the area and as a fun-loving and talented instructor of tennis (at Val Halla) and skiing (at Lost Valley and Sunday River). He was an avid athlete and had a passion for sharing his love of sports with children of all ages. He made sports fun , the way they should be. He will be sorely missed by many of those touched by his magic.
Tom was also a devoted father and leaves behind two children, Andy, 17, and Sarah, 14, both from Cumberland. He was intensely proud of them and loved them deeply. There are no other immediate family members. Also surviving is his best friend and former wife of 20 years, Terry, from Cumberland.
A memorial will be held on Feb. 23, 2008, at the Congregational Church in Cumberland at 282 Main St., at 11 a.m.
